CITRUS COUNTY MOSQUITO CONTROL DISTRICT

About Our District
Home » About Our District
Who We Are:

Our Mission at Citrus County Mosquito Control District is to promote the health, safety, and welfare of Citrus County residents and visitors through a program of integrated mosquito management practices to control populations of mosquitoes that may become a nuisance or a threat to public health.

Established in 1953, we were tasked with controlling the nuisance and disease-carrying mosquito populations contained in Citrus County. Summer of 1999 we became an independent special district and have since evolved through the years to adopt better mosquito control practices and technology to better serve the public.

The special district is operated under Florida Statutes Chapter 388 and Florida Administration Code Chapter 5E-13. Our fiscal year begins October 1st and ends September 30th each year. An annual mosquito control services fee is issued to each property owner in Citrus County and is noted as a separate item on tax bills issued by the Citrus County Tax Collector and TRIM notices mailed by the Citrus County Property Appraisers Office.

Mission & Vision

Goals

We are tasked with preventing nuisance and vector mosquitoes from having a negative effect on our economy, agriculture, leisure, and livelihood. The goal is mosquito control, not total eradication of all mosquitoes. Fun fact: lots of organisms in the environment eat mosquitoes!

Impact

We have moved to using more environmentally friendly mosquito control products. By following the product labels, we minimize off-target effects of our products on the environment, pollinators, and aquatic ecosystems.
